Turquoise and Lapis Lazuli

The collection's two largest stone families each have their own dedicated sub-collection. In turquoise, the core pieces are the tennis formats: the Bezel Set Turquoise Tennis Bracelet and Bezel Set Turquoise Tennis Necklace both set natural turquoise in a continuous bezel line in solid gold. The Diamond and Turquoise Tennis Bracelet and Diamond and Turquoise Bangle bring natural diamonds in alongside the stone.

For turquoise earrings, the Oversized Turquoise Hoops make a strong architectural statement. The Turquoise Horseshoe Stud is the quieter everyday alternative. In rings, the Turquoise Open Heart Ring, Turquoise Six Stone Ring and Gold and Turquoise Ring give three distinct takes on the stone in solid gold. The Gold and Turquoise Pendant completes the range.

In deep blue lapis lazuli, the same breadth applies. The Bezel Set Lapis Tennis Bracelet and Bezel Set Lapis Tennis Necklace are the anchor pieces. The Lapis Open Heart Ring, Lapis Six Stone Ring, Lapis Open Heart Necklace and Lapis Horseshoe Stud round out the sub-collection alongside the Diamond and Lapis Bangle.

Statement Rings, Earrings and Pendants

The open heart rings are available in turquoise, lapis lazuli and ruby: the Ruby Open Heart Ring brings a deep red stone in the same solid gold setting. Six stone rings cover the same breadth of colour: sapphire, pink sapphire, emerald, ruby, lapis and turquoise are all available in 9ct and 14ct solid gold. The Toi Et Moi Ring pairs two stones of your choice side by side, made to order with your choice of stone combination.

For gemstone earrings, the pear drop huggie series is among the strongest in the range. The Diamond and Emerald Pear Drop Huggies, Amethyst Pear Drop Diamond Huggies and Diamond and Pink Sapphire Pear Drop Huggies each set a pear-cut stone within a diamond halo on a close-fitting huggie hoop. The Diamond and Emerald Ear Chain connects a diamond huggie to the lobe via a fine diamond chain.

Statement pendants include the Asscher Cut Gemstone Pendant and the Gemstone Cushion Pendant, both made to order in 18ct solid gold with your choice of stone. The Birthstone Pendant and Birthstone Bracelet bring personalisation into the gemstone range — or see the full birthstone jewellery collection. Choosing a Gemstone: What to Know About Each Stone

The stones in this collection are chosen for their colour depth and their compatibility with solid gold settings. Each has a distinct character.

Turquoise is one of the most visually versatile of the group. Its blue-green tone sits naturally against yellow gold and gives an almost instant warmth to the combination. It is an opaque stone, which means it reflects light rather than refracting it. The turquoise jewellery collection covers the widest range of formats: bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings and pendants.

Lapis lazuli is a deep, matte blue with the occasional natural gold fleck running through it. The contrast between the lapis blue and solid gold is strong and graphic. It suits those who want colour that reads from a distance. See the full lapis lazuli jewellery collection.

Sapphire, emerald, ruby and amethyst each appear across the earring and ring categories. The sapphires used across the six stone rings and pendants are deep blue. The emeralds appear in the pear drop huggie series and the six stone ring. Rubies bring the strongest red in the collection. Amethyst sits at the softer end of the palette in a warm purple tone.

Pink sapphire is a lighter alternative to ruby: the same stone family with a softer, more rose-toned colour. The Diamond and Pink Sapphire Pear Drop Huggies and the pink sapphire six stone ring give the clearest sense of how it reads in solid gold.

How to Care for Natural Gemstone Jewellery

Natural gemstones are durable in the right conditions but benefit from a considered approach to daily wear. The stones used in this collection are not treated or enhanced, so the advice below applies to all pieces.

Remove gemstone jewellery before swimming, showering or applying skincare, perfume or cleaning products. Chemicals found in chlorinated water, soap and sunscreen can dull a stone's surface over time and weaken the bond between stone and setting. This applies especially to softer stones like turquoise and lapis lazuli.

Store each piece separately to avoid stones and metal scratching against one another. A soft pouch or a lined jewellery box with individual compartments is ideal. The box your piece arrives in is designed for storage.

Clean gemstone jewellery by wiping gently with a soft, dry cloth. A lightly dampened cloth can be used for the metal parts. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners for opaque stones — turquoise and lapis in particular are porous and can be damaged by ultrasonic vibration or prolonged soaking.

Take pieces in that need re-setting or have a loose stone. Natural wear over time is normal, and a stone that is slightly loose is much easier to address than one that has been lost. All pieces in this collection are made in our London atelier and can be assessed there.

How to Wear Gemstone Jewellery with Solid Gold

The most considered approach to gemstone and solid gold combinations is to let one element lead. Either the stone is the focal point, with plain gold pieces alongside it, or the gold is the structure and the stone adds a single point of colour.

For a single statement piece, the open heart rings in turquoise, lapis and ruby work well worn alone. The Turquoise Open Heart Ring and the Ruby Open Heart Ring are strong enough to carry a look without other gemstone pieces around them. Pair with a plain solid gold necklace or a single gold bracelet.

For earrings, the pear drop huggie series mixes coloured stones with natural diamonds in a single piece. The Diamond and Emerald Pear Drop Huggies and Amethyst Pear Drop Diamond Huggies already do the mixing internally. Keep rings and bracelets plain gold when wearing these.

Tennis bracelets and tennis necklaces in turquoise or lapis can be stacked with one another or worn with a plain solid gold piece. The turquoise tennis necklace alongside the lapis tennis bracelet works because both stones sit in the same tone family. Mixing stones from very different ends of the colour palette is harder to carry off with subtlety.

For personalised pieces alongside gemstones, the Birthstone Bracelet gives a natural starting point. It brings the stone and the personal together in a single piece, removing the need to coordinate two separate items.

Gemstone Jewellery: Frequently Asked Questions

What gemstones are used in the Argent & Asher collection?

The collection uses turquoise, lapis lazuli, blue sapphire, pink sapphire, emerald, ruby, amethyst and blue topaz. Turquoise and lapis lazuli appear across the widest range of formats and each have their own dedicated sub-collection: turquoise jewellery and lapis lazuli jewellery.

Sapphire, emerald, ruby and amethyst appear primarily in the ring and earring categories. The pear drop huggie earrings are available in emerald, amethyst and pink sapphire. The six stone rings are available in blue sapphire, pink sapphire, emerald, ruby, lapis lazuli and turquoise. Birthstone pieces, available across necklaces and bracelets, use a wider range of stones including those not elsewhere in the collection — see the birthstone jewellery collection for the full range.

Are the gemstones natural or synthetic?

All gemstones used by Argent & Asher are natural. No synthetic, lab-grown or simulated stones are used in any piece in this collection. Turquoise and lapis lazuli are natural opaque stones. The sapphires, emeralds, rubies and amethysts used in the rings and earrings are natural faceted stones.

Natural gemstones will vary slightly in colour, depth and patterning from stone to stone. Turquoise in particular can vary in its exact blue-green tone and surface patterning, which is a characteristic of the natural material rather than a flaw. Each piece made in our London atelier uses stones assessed individually before setting.

What gold carats are available for gemstone jewellery?

Most pieces in this collection are available in 9ct, 14ct or 18ct solid gold. The choice of carat affects the colour and hardness of the metal: 9ct gold is the hardest and most durable, which makes it well suited to rings and bracelets that are worn daily. 18ct gold has the deepest, warmest colour and is the softest of the three. 14ct sits between the two in both respects.

Some statement pieces, including certain pendants, are made exclusively in 18ct solid gold. The individual product pages specify which carats are available for each piece. All pieces are solid gold throughout, not plated.

How do I choose the right gemstone for me?

The most useful starting point is colour. Turquoise and lapis lazuli are the boldest options in the collection: both are opaque stones with a strong graphic colour that reads clearly from a distance, and both contrast well against yellow gold in particular. Turquoise has a blue-green quality. Lapis has a deeper, flatter blue, often with natural gold flecks through the stone.

Sapphire, emerald and ruby are faceted stones that reflect and refract light rather than absorbing it. They sit closer to the fine jewellery end of the collection. Blue sapphire has a rich, classic quality. Emerald has a deep forest green. Ruby is the strongest red. Pink sapphire and amethyst are softer alternatives at the lighter end of the palette.

If you are buying a piece to pair with other jewellery you already own, consider the metal colour and any stones already in your collection. Turquoise and lapis work naturally alongside yellow gold pieces. Emerald and sapphire pair well with white gold or yellow gold in equal measure.

Are gemstone jewellery pieces made to order?

Yes. Every piece in the Argent & Asher collection is made to order in our London atelier. Pieces are not held in stock and are individually made once you place your order. Production typically takes two to three weeks, with the exact lead time shown at the point of purchase. Personalised pieces, including those where you choose a stone or engraving, are confirmed at the point of order and then made to that specification.
